Technical Communications Officer "Nationals Only"
Established in 2012NRC Jordan’s long-term outlook addresses the problems affecting life as a refugee. Role Specific Information

The Technical Communications Officer at NRC’s Communications Unit is part of a dynamic team consisting of two technical officers and one officer under the supervision of the Communications Adviser. The Technical Communication Officer’s role is to produce communication materials, manage events, media visits and media relations, and liaise with donors and external stakeholders in order to highlight NRC’s refugee response in Jordan and raise awareness amongst the general public about the refugee crisis through traditional and social media.
Generic responsibilities:
- Management of project staff
- Implement plan of action for delegated portfolio of support function’s projects (activities, budget and project documentation).
- Day to day follow of progress in project implementation.
- Ensure adherence and compliance with NRC policies, support function tools, handbooks and guidelines.
- Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist.
- Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
- Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents.
- Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer of key skills.
- Liaison and collaborate with relevant local authorities and stakeholders.
- Promote the rights of internally displaced/returnees In line with the advocacy strategy.
- Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards & principles within NRC and amongst beneficiaries served by NRC.
Specific responsibilities:
- Write feature stories, press releases and other copies for use externally and in both traditional and social media, in both Arabic and English.
- Support programmes in information collection including feature stories, case studies and photography for use in reporting and briefing.
- Scout, find and initiate contact with individuals whose stories NRC wants to highlight for a specific campaign or media interest.
- Coordinate communication campaigns and liaise with the team, programs, donors, and external stakeholders as dictated by the campaign.
- Create content for NRC Jordan social media accounts in coordination with the Communications Coordinator.
- Manage NRC Jordan external events and visits, in coordination with NRC current policies and relevant internal departments, act as the focal point between NRC and relevant external organisations or partners and donors, and Identify and bridge gaps in programmes visibility needs to ensure NRC brand is adequately presented during high level visits.
- Manage the relationship with media focal points within programmes and build their capacities to ensure their contribution to the communication work.
- Support the Communications Coordinator in pitching stories to local traditional media for press release distributions and other packages.
Our Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a university graduate with a minimum of three years previous experience in communications and event. Experience working in complex and volatile contexts. Proven experience in handling external relations, visits and event management within the humanitarian sector.Knowledge of Regional Crises in general and the Syrian Crisis in particular. Knowledge of social media channels essential.Knowledge of communication and media work for an NGO preferred. Knowledge of communicating humanitarian needs and ethical reporting of beneficiaries preferred and to have proven experience in copy writing and fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal.
